Today I wanted to share a dessert for a change. When I did my reader’s poll a few weeks ago, I had lots of requests for more desserts. Luckily, in my handy “To Try” recipe binder I have plenty of dessert recipes to try out. I decided to make these orange brownies.
A couple of weeks ago, I got kinda lazy one Sunday afternoon and took a nap. I had written off making these since there was little time left in the day, but surprisingly when I awoke from my slumber I was rejuvenated and started to prepare these orange brownies.
These brownies are not brown at all, in fact, there is no chocolate in them what so ever! The only similarity they have to a chocolate brownie is the wonderful cake-like consistency. The citrus in the brownie makes these feel so much lighter and not as heavy as normal chocolate brownies. It’s almost like these orange brownies are a little healthier because they have Vitamin C in them too.
A nice, refreshing change from the normal chocolate brownies, these brownies are moist and cakey, with an extra delicious citrus glaze. Perfect for summer entertaining!
How To Make Orange Brownies
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 13 x 9 x 2 inch baking pan and set aside.
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, and salt to incorporate. Add in the butter, eggs, orange extract, and orange zest; beat with an electric mixer until smooth.
Pour the batter into the prepared pan; bake for 30 to 35 minutes, or until light golden brown. Remove from the oven and pierce with a fork across the whole layer of the brownie.
Prepare the Glaze:
In a small bowl, combine all of the glaze ingredients, whisking until smooth. Pour the glaze onto the brownie sheet. I found it easier to carefully pick up the entire pan and tipping the pan and rotating it from the top, bottom, side to side to spread the glaze across the whole sheet.
Cool cake and cut into squares, garnish with orange zest.
I took the leftover brownies to work and the went away pretty fast and I left with an empty container.
I’m totally convinced that these are healthier, aren’t you?
I’m excited to share this with Fiesta Friday this week! Come on over and join the party! 🙂
