Only those of us with furbabies of any kind understand the Unconditional love and unique place they have in our hearts and homes. We lost our sweet Angel a 14 year old Lab to cancer just a few weeks ago and we are still grieving. It is hard to come home and not have her meet me at the door. She was a constant companion to my husband who is at home with a disability. As soon as he is ready we will get another pet , not to replace her but to honor all the love she gave us, that we can give back to another that sits alone in a pound. Hugs to you and your family.

I often thought of your sweet baby, I knew he was getting up there and was sick a while back. Poor little sweet baby, you should be consoled in the fact that you gave him a VERY good life. As for advice, I have to say I lost a dog very unexpectedly 15 years ago – he was only 7 and I took the loss terribly. He was like one of my children, I loved him dearly. In telling a friend about what happened a few days later, he asked would we get another dog, and if we did what kind? I said we were thinking of a Jack Russell and this time we wanted a female, and not a puppy but a little older and already housebroken. Turned out his cousin had a female Jack Russell, 6 months old, that he was looking to find a home for. We drove out to NJ and came home with our Lily girl – it was within a week of my dog passing away and honestly it helped sooooo much to have a new sweet angel to focus on. Lily is now 15 1/2 and I know her time with us is getting shorter, which makes me so sad….but I know we gave her a very, very good life and her daughter (the Monkey) and our new sweet Molly also have good lives. Sherri, Thank you so much for the very kind words. Pets are only with us for such a short time and even the longest relationships seem too short. I loved reading about Atchee, and I know how much you loved him, and he, you. My heart is broken for you. As you know, I am a fellow animal lover, and I know how much these loss hurts. I don’t have any advice, unfortunately. When mine pass, I grieve endlessly also, for a very long time. Some will tell you that the best way to get through this is to get a new cat or kitten, but we just can’t do that. We waited four years after our Dane died before we got Jay, and he passed away in September. I had a breakdown last night over him. You have to do what works for you, and take as long as you need to grieve. As we well no know, Atchee was not “just a cat.” He was a very loved member of your family. I will keep you in my prayers. Hi Heidi, I am so sorry about your precious boy, Titan. Ashes’ great-great grandmother (a cat I got at age 14) had Maine Coon characteristics. Such beautiful cats.
