We live on the side of the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Virginia. I am the author and photographer here at The Mountain Kitchen, where I share delicious homemade recipes using clean food ingredients, and stories about mountain life. Read more...
Cheryl, I posted a story today that will explain my absence. Not sure what is going on with my RSS Feed. I do not see it on reader…

I guess it’s not all honey and nuts living in paradise. Have the plows even reached you guys yet? Maybe it’s time to buy a snow blower, or a snowmobile! Or a helicopter. Even so, I love snow days, and am completely envious. There is just something wonderful about being forced to hunker down. The solitude of it. The coziness. The free time that opens up. Not being expected to go anywhere. And digging little paths around the house to all the key places. Cooking something savory up in the kitchen. Taking breaks from shoveling to dry out a little by the fire with a lovely beverage in hand. And this is why it is also good to have a well stocked pantry, which I suspect you do, being a food blogger and all.
Yup, good times. Worthy of a blog post! Any rate, have fun with it. And hey to David.
Well, our neighbor is our plow guy and he lives at the end of our dead end road. He has had an awful time trying to get this road plowed. Took him until yesterday late just to get to our drive 1/2 mile down the road from his end. We have another neighbor that was making headway at the bottom end. It is definitely a team effort, but we should be close to getting out soon. Another snow day for us here on the mountain. Lots of digging and we more than likely will break down and get something to help us out in the future. As you said the solitude and coziness outweigh the seriousness of the situation. We would be really made had we moved up here and not seen snow. I guess the crazy thing about this storm is that even those in the city and flat land are in the same situation we are. Subdivisions in the suburbs are exactly like ours. Snowbound! I love every minute. If the power had gone off it would not be as fun, but somehow David and I always seem to find light in any situation. You have to take what life throws at ya, even if it is a giant snow ball! 馃檪
