French bread egg in a basket is made with an egg cooked over easy inside a hole in the center, topped with melted cheese and sprinkled with bacon bits. Yum!
Using a knife or your fingers, create holes in the middle of each slice of French bread. It doesn’t have to look pretty, the egg will fill in the hole. Toss the removed portions of the bread into the pan and cook it in the butter with the slices.
Melt butter in a non-stick skillet. Use the bread, move the butter around in the pan to help spread it out evenly, before placing the French bread slice into the skillet.Carefully crack one egg into each of the holes in the bread.Cover the pan with a lid. This will help speed up the cooking process of the egg.
When the bottom of the egg becomes opaque and white, carefully flip the bread, being careful not to spill out the egg. This is a quick even flip without any hesitation
Top the bread and egg with a slice of cheese.
Cover and cook for another minute or until you have reached the desired consistency in which you like your egg cooked.
Chop up some bacon and crumble on top of the French bread eggs in a basket (optional).
