Spivey’s Spicy Smoked Snack Mix combines Crispix cereal Cheez-Its, pretzels, and peanuts tossed in spicy butter sauce and kissed with applewood smoke. A great party snack!
Set up the grill or smoker for indirect heat using the three-zone split fire method. Preheat to 250 degrees F and add some apple wood to the hot coals.
Meanwhile, melt the butter in a small saucepan with the Worcestershire sauce, season salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper. Mix well and turn off the heat
Add the cereal, nuts, cracker, and pretzels to a large bowl. Pour the melted butter mixture over the snack mix. Toss to combine. Coat well.
Pour the snack mix out onto the disposable pan, spreading it out in an even layer across the sheet.
Place the sheet pan of snack mix over the center (non-heated) portion of the grill or smoker.
Smoke for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes.
After an hour, remove the pan from the grill or smoker. Allow the snack mix to cool and enjoy!
Notes
It's hard to measure out cups of crackers and pretzels. Just measure the cereal and peanuts as best as you can and then eyeball the number of crackers and pretzels. You want a nice equal ratio of ingredients.I found that using my hands was the best way to coat the snack mix. I worerubber gloves to make cleanup easy.No Grill? No problem! Alternatively, if you don't have the equipment to smoke the snack mix, use 1 teaspoon of Smoked Paprika and bake in the oven at 250 degrees for 1 hour, tossing every 15 minutes.
