The classic combination of BBQ sauce and ranch dressing is presented in an easy, delicious recipe. This is a must-have BBQ ranch recipe. It’s great on just about anything.
Y’all know I’m not a huge barbecue sauce lover, but I must confess… I’m in love with BBQ Ranch!
How did this happen? Never in a million years would I have believed that adding BBQ sauce to ranch dressing would have ever been good, BUT IT TOTALLY IS!!!!!
Have you tried it? Am I late to this dressing game? How long has this been going on, and who figured this out?
Somehow, I imagine someone was at a cookout one day and dripped ranch dressing onto their barbecued chicken or barbecue sauce into their salad… who knows how it happened? The only thing that matters is that it happened and is so good! Incredibly good!
BBQ Ranch Recipe Ingredients
This is an easy recipe to whip up using essential pantry ingredients. The recipe card at the end of this post lists the complete ingredient list with measurements.
Mayonnaise: we always use regular mayo, but you can use light if that’s what you like.
Buttermilk: you may need to make a special trip to the store to buy buttermilk, or you can make your own with vinegar and milk.
Sour Cream: either whole or light, both work fine.
Spices: garlic powder, dried dill, parsley, onion powder, salt, and freshly cracked black pepper all make up the “Ranch” flavoring.
Barbecue Sauce: use your favorite BBQ sauce. Any brand of classic barbecue sauce will work.
How To Make BBQ Ranch
Many recipes call for ranch seasoning mix, but not mine. This delicious BBQ ranch dressing recipe begins with creamy homemade ranch dressing perfectly blended with tangy barbecue sauce. It gives it a smoky, flavor-filled taste worth slathering on everything from salads to burgers.
Recipe Tips
- The dressing will thicken up slightly as it sits in the fridge. Make in advance to ensure the flavors are nice and blended throughout.
- Add the dressing to a jar with a lid or airtight container. Store the dressing in the refrigerator for up to a week, but if you don’t want to make so much at once, combine all the ranch dressing ingredients.
- Add equal amounts of BBQ sauce to the ranch dressing, as desired—2 tablespoons of ranch dressing to 2 tablespoons of BBQ sauce for a quick salad.
Ways To Use Homemade BBQ Ranch Dressing
I originally made a grilled chicken southwest salad to put this BBQ ranch dressing in. You can use this sauce the same way you would as a salad dressing. But don’t stop there. Use BBQ ranch as a dipping sauce for chicken. Put it on pizza, potato wedges, or french fries. Use it as a dip for vegetables. From everything from salads to burgers. The possibilities are endless!

Me oh my, sister, this looks amazing! I need to get better about homemade dressings. They’re just so easy to pick up in the grocery store……sigh. But you’re right – too many ingredients. You’re inspiring me!!!
