With the weather getting warmer and berries coming in season, I crave salads. But I’m not talking about your average salad. I’m talking about the ones you get excited about making and can’t wait to eat.

This mixed berry salad is delicious. Its crunchy nuts, crisp greens, and creamy dressing give it a fantastic texture. Loaded with flavor and texture, this is no boring salad—it’s fresh and exciting.

Serve as a main dish or as a side dish.

What You Need to Make this Spring Mixed Berry Salad

  • Mixed Greens: spring mixed greens complement the fresh berries the best. You could also use baby spinach.
  • Fresh Berries: I love the combination of fresh strawberries and blueberries. Use whatever berries you like. Fresh blackberries and fresh raspberries are great options.
  • Nuts: I love the texture of mixed nuts, but feel free to use only your favorite. Cashews, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and pecans are all great.
  • Tangy Vinaigrette: Strawberry vinaigrette is perfect for when fresh strawberries are in season. It’s sweet, tart, and creamy smooth. You can make a homemade strawberry vinaigrette using this recipe, or your favorite store-bought vinaigrette will work just fine. Balsamic, raspberry, apple cider, or red wine vinaigrette will all work—any tangy vinaigrette.

Add-Ins:

  • For the Carnivore, use grilled or roasted chicken, bacon, or shrimp
  • More Veggie Protein: add in diced avocado

How to Make Spring Mixed Berry Salad

I like to prepare the salads in individual bowls to ensure the ingredients disperse evenly throughout.

  • Add the spring mix and top with berries and nuts. Sprinkle with blue cheese and drizzle with dressing!

Tips:

  • Use prewashed and packaged greens to save time.
  • If using fresh-picked greens, use a salad spinner to help spin the water out after washing them.
  • Use a spouted glass container or a spoon to help drizzle the vinaigrette onto the salad.
  • Lightly toast and cool the nuts for a more robust flavor.
  • Also, don’t cut the strawberries any earlier than 24 hours in advance. They will weep and cause the lettuce to become soggy.
  • Crumble the cheese while it is cold. Room-temperature cheese has more flavor, but it’s hard to crumble.

FAQ’s

Can I make this salad ahead of time?

Yes, but do not add the dressing until ready to serve. The dressing will cause the greens to wilt and break down.

What cheeses can be used besides blue cheese?

Gorgonzola, Feta cheese, goat cheese, or queso freso.

If you’re tired of boring salads, try this mixed berry salad. It will not disappoint!
