Put some spice into Meatless Monday with these jalapeno pepper jelly grilled cheese sandwiches. Made with sweet and spicy jalapeno pepper jelly, smooth and silky cream cheese, and extra-sharp cheddar cheese.
I am so in love with the jalapeno jelly that I made this summer. In fact, I made a second batch just a few weeks ago with more of Jose’s peppers. The sweet-spicy combination of the jelly is so good with cheese.
You don’t have to learn how to preserve or can jelly to enjoy these sandwiches. You can find pepper jelly in almost any grocery store to enjoy on your next grilled cheese sandwich.
Ingredients Needed
- Sandwich Bread: any kind you like. Regular loaf bread works just as good as any.
- Butter: salted butter works the best, because it brings out the buttery flavor
- Cheeses: Softend cream cheese (or whipped cream cheese) and sliced Extra-sharp Cheddar from Cabot is my favorite!
- Pepper Jelly: homemade using this recipe or use a good store-bought jar.
How To Make Jalapeno Pepper Jelly Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
- Spread one side of each slice of bread with cream cheese and top with slices of cheddar followed by the jalapeno pepper jelly.
- Melt one tablespoon of the butter in a medium non-stick pan over low heat. Cook until the bottom is golden and the cheese has started to melt, 8 to 10 minutes.
- Place the second tablespoon of butter in the pan to melt. Turn the sandwich over and smear the second side with melted butter—Brown the second side, about 5 more minutes.
Serve these sandwiches with your favorite hot soup. We also love tomato soup with a grilled cheese sandwich!
So what are you waiting for? Grab a jar of jalapeno pepper jelly and slather it on your next grilled cheese for Meatless Monday.
Enjoy!
