I put chocolate on my taco!! Yep, you heard that right, I put chocolate on my taco.
You have probably heard of the popular Mexican sauce made of spice and chocolate, called Mole. You can enjoy it over enchiladas, chicken, and burritos. Believe it or not, some mole sauces may contain cocoa or bitter dark chocolate in them to give the sauce richness. Knowing this helped me wrap my head around what we learned during our visit at the Vosges Haut–Chocolat® boutique, while in Chicago.
As we tasted samples of chocolate in the boutique, I was intrigued by the spicy chocolate blends that were available.
Before you click outta here, STOP! Now think about it for a minute, dark chocolate with the warm heat of spicy chiles and cinnamon…
Yes!
The sales associate at the boutique let us compare two of the spicy chocolates available and we fell in love with his suggestion of the Red Fire Bar! What I loved most was the amazing back-heat the chocolate gave you. Once you swallow, you get a slight warming sensation in the back of your throat, while experiencing the euphoria of chocolate.
I thought the bar itself was amazing, but when the sales associate told us to add it to tacos the next time we made them. I could not stop thinking about it.
David had been begging for a taco night for a while, so a couple of weeks ago, he got his wish. I used this taco night as an opportunity to add the chocolate. First, I grated it directly on the meat, and then again as a topping for good measure. I wanted to make sure I could taste the chocolate.
HOLY COW! I couldn’t believe how good it was. It gave the taco warmth and richness like no other ingredient could.
Next time you make tacos, TRY IT!!

Yep, I also love making chocolate truffles (with good Belgium Chocolate) and then adding chile spice granules to the top of truffles. Delicious, too. Woo Hoo.
