Citrus Juice: Getting the Most Juice From Citrus {The Mountain Kitchen Tips

Did that lemon or lime not produce as much citrus juice as you expected?

Citrus juice is a great way to add flavor and freshen up many dishes and of course there are always cocktails! Believe it or not how you handle your citrus plays a big part in how much juice you can squeeze out. Try the following tips to get the most juice from citrus:

Citrus Juice Tip #1 : Nuke it.

The refrigerator tightens the cell walls of the citrus and it’s harder to release the juices. Place the citrus inside the microwave and cook on high for 20 to 30 seconds. This helps the juices flow easier, especially when coming straight from the fridge.

Citrus Juice Tip #2: Roll it on the counter.

Rolling the fruit under your palm across the counter will help bust open some of the individual segments inside limes and lemons. This is will help make it easier to juice the citrus.

Citrus Juice Tip #3: Use a gadget.

Use a wooden reamer, a juicer or a citrus squeezer to juice the citrus. These gadgets will help you get more juice than squeezing them by hand.

If you haven’t tried these tips, give them a try. They work! Since I started trying these tips, I’ve been getting more juice from my citrus.

I love my antique glass juicer…makes the work so much easier!!! I get more juice from it than the newer gadgets that I own.

You see mine in the photo. It’s plastic and probably came from the dollar store. I have a wooden reamer but I prefer cheap plastic. Ha!

I would think you would need the electric juicer with all your citrus, Cheryl. Juice away!!
