Remember José Jalapeño on the Deck? I wanted to give you a José update…
Since I last posted about José’s babies, he continued to live happily at the deck door. Once the wrath of Old Man Winter no longer threatened José, I went shopping and bought José a much larger home. Being a family man, he was running out of room in his old house. His roots were getting stronger and he needed more room for his growing family. I also got him some high quality potting soil for the vital nutrients to produce all of those babies. With all the rain this summer, I have only had to water José once. He’s growing taller each day and his a fertile turtle! Producing all kinds of baby jalapeños without any assistance from me.
I had to feed him yesterday. With all the growing and producing he is doing, he was about to starve to death and his beautiful green leaves were yellowing a bit. When I checked on him this morning, the food is already working wonders and he’s back to doing what he does best, making jalapeños!
Here’s a little video of his new home and progress:
We were able to enjoy one of the jalapeño babies when I made Mexican Zucchini Boats last week and hope to enjoy some jalapeño poppers soon!

How fun! We tried to keep one alive in our back sun room last year, but no dice. I’d love to have one though – so good in burgers, and fresh salsa…mmmm…now I want salsa. 🙂

I’m really surprised José made it. It is provably because he was where i could see him everyday and i didn’t forget to water him…Lol!
Yes, we love them too! Still got pickled jalapeños I made from last year. Gonna make some more before summer is over. 🙂

Jose certainly adds extra beauty to your deck and to the scenic view. A healthy specimen to be sure.

Thanks, Dor. He had a close call last week… Nearly hit by a falling deck chair in one of the storms. Yikes!!
