Do you know how to cut a mango?
If you said no, it’s ok, I didn’t either.
I have to admit, the first time I made Mango Salsa, I only knew I needed fresh mango. However, I had no clue what to do with it. I had to research mangos to figure out how to cut them.
While researching facts about Mangoes, I read that mangoes are one of the most popular fruit in the world. Say what?!? Was I the only one completely in the dark about this tropical fruit?
There are a few ways to cut into a mango and they even make a kitchen gadget made for slicing mangos. It is important to understand that a mango has one long, flat seed in the center of the fruit. All you need to do is work around the seed, and the rest is easy. Here’s the easiest method I found:
HOW TO CUT A MANGO IN 4 EASY STEPS:
#1. Wash the mango before cutting.
#2. Stand the mango on your cutting board stem end down and hold. Using a sharp knife, place it about ¼ inch from the widest center line and cut down through the mango. There should be very little resistance when slicing through, if there is, you may need to move the knife to the outer edge slightly. Turn the mango around and repeat this cut on the other side.
The two ovals pieces of mango are known as the “cheeks”. The middle is mostly the mango seed.
#3. Cut vertical parallel slices into the mango flesh, but DO NOT to cut all the way through the skin. Then cut another set of horizontal parallel slices to make a checkerboard pattern.
#4 Using a spoon, scoop the mango slices out of the mango.
I hope this helps you understand the fruit and how the heck to get the goodness out!

It is a rather strange fruit. Seems like a waste of space with all of that see in there… I hope next time you use one it will be easier for you!

“That dang mango!!” You’re funny. I too have had my moments with mangoes. They are good tho. I like to dehydrate them for camping trips and stuff.

The first time I tried to cut a mango, I mutilated it!! I love it dehydrated in trail mix. David and I eat a lot of that stuff nowadays. I need to get a dehydrator because I love some of the dried fruits better than fresh.

Exactly how my mother used to cut mangos for us. I loved eating and smooching it all over my face and clothes. Everybody knew you ate a mango! Thanks for reminding me of cool memories!
